Brief description:
The Bourke Alcohol Working Group was formed as a partnership between the Bourke Community Drug Action Team (CDAT); Bourke Police; Bourke Shire; Bourke Community Working Party; Greater Western Area Health Service; NSW Health; Bourke Aboriginal Medical Service; Bourke Liquor Accord and NSW Liquor and Gaming to undertake a project to identify and address some of the alcohol related issues in Bourke.
The purpose of this paper was to provide a contextual framework for the initial Bourke Alcohol Forum that would inform the development of a 5 year Alcohol Management Plan in Bourke, Western NSW.
Outcome:

Review, collate and present health and police data relating to alcohol misuse in the Bourke community

Identify impacts of alcohol misuse

Highlight key areas to prioritise for attention

Provide a framework to develop a 5 year Alcohol Management Plan which would articulate key strategies for adoption

Present and facilitate one of the project’s work groups
