Project: Expansion and Enhancement of Primary Health Care Services in
Cobar

Project Aim:
The purpose of the study was to develop an Indigenous specific primary
health care model of service delivery in Cobar and its surrounding region.
Requirements of the project:

Identification and mapping of primary health care services
and providers available in Cobar and surrounding regions

Analysis
of health needs and priorities emerging from the Murdi Paaki Community
Working Party Action Plans, validated by community consultation
with all stakeholders

Location of linkages for OATSIH to
develop health services with mainstream and other relevant service
providers
-
Identification of key areas of health need and
gaps in service availability, and of issues impacting on availability
of services, access and utilisation of services by local Aboriginal
people and the wider population

Development of model/s
of accessible primary health care service delivery for Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander people living in Cobar and a subsequent
implementation strategy, including preliminary budget costings
Outcome:
-
Identification of key gaps in services in Cobar related
to social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB), domestic violence and allied
health services to support child development.

Funding was obtained
to extend the Bila Muuji SEWB service into Cobar resulting in the
appointment of two Aboriginal mental health workers, supported by
weekly visiting psychological and counselling services to Cobar
