Project: Development of a discussion paper , The Impact of Alcohol in the Bourke Community, to inform the inaugural Bourke Alcohol Working Group forum

Project Aim:

The Bourke Alcohol Working Group was formed as a partnership between: the Bourke Community Drug Action Team (CDAT); Bourke Police, Bourke Shire, Bourke Community Working Party, Greater Western Area Health Service, NSW Health, Bourke Aboriginal Medical Service, Bourke Liquor Accord and NSW Liquor and Gaming to undertake a project to identify and address some of the alcohol related issues in Bourke.

The purpose of this paper was to provide a contextual framework for the initial Bourke Alcohol Forum that would inform the development of a 5 year Alcohol Management Plan in Bourke, Western NSW.

Requirements of the project:

  • Review, collate and present health and police data relating to alcohol misuse in the Bourke community

  • Identify impacts of alcohol misuse

  • Highlight key areas to prioritise for attention

  • Provide a framework to develop a 5 year Alcohol Management Plan which would articulate key strategies for adoption

  • Present and facilitate one of the project’s work groups
