Development of alternative model for delivery of oral health services
in North West Queensland
Project Timeline: June 2005 – September 2005
Development of an innovative model to deliver oral health services in
North West Queensland including:
Scoping exercise

Identification and analysis of current models of dental
health service delivery in remote areas including skill mix within
dental health services/teams,
frequency of visits to communities, transport options, strategies
for recruitment and retention of dental health professionals. This
will be
through telephone and electronic communication with known services,
and others that these services can identify.

Assessment of demand for dental services in the Mt Isa and Charters Towers
Health Service District, based on population and recommended
guidelines for preventative and acute care

Identification of national and state dental health strategies to ensure
proposed model meets and links with national/state directions

Identification of recruitment and retention strategies for dental allied
health professionals
-
Identification of equipment required by oral health team, determination
of location of this equipment within the Districts, and additional
equipment requirements to support the proposed model
Development of model

Synthesis of information gathered through the scoping
exercise to develop a preferred Oral Health model for North West
Queensland based on principle
of primary health care

Development of budget for the preferred model

Development of 12 month implementation plan
