Project: Identification of issues affecting access to health care services for Aboriginal people in the Dubbo region

Timeline: Aug 2008 – Dec 2008

Project Aim:

To identify health service levels, needs and service gaps in Dubbo and those services’ capacity to meet current and future demand, to inform forward planning by the Department.

Requirements of the project:

  • Collation and analysis of socio-economic and health profiles of 16 communities in Dubbo and its catchment area

  • Review of existing health planning documents and reports regarding Dubbo

  • Description of existing primary and allied health services and support networks and services in Dubbo

  • Extensive face to face consultation with government and non government organisations, and with community members

  • Description and discussion of issues affecting access by Aboriginal people to services that promote health and wellbeing

  • Formulation of recommendations about where expansion and enhancement of health services are required in the context of Dubbo as a regional centre, and about how to address outstanding issues affecting access to health services by Aboriginal people
